The Arboreal Magician

Eric Manigian is a true magician (or savior if you as the trees), when it comes to how he can transform wood. Manigian, who trained as a fine artist in sculpture, is the amazingly talented man behind this impressive collection of unique wood furnishings.

Chisai

Manigian’s wood pieces are namely constructed of tree fragments, which are then finished with oil. He explains that his "furniture is made from hand-selected wood from small millers who receive fallen, diseased, or discarded trees. In this way, we can give new life and meaning to the tree in the form of furniture."

Deuce

If you thought that his creative use of tree parts was impressive, Manigan’s signature style also includes a specific hand-joining technique that he learned while studying Buddhism abroad in Japan.

Bandwidth 008

Each piece evokes a sinewy aesthetic that resonates an ethereal soul. It is difficult to not gawk in awe of each piece. My favorite (as if I could choose), is ‘Bandwidth 008.’

More Printing Books

Prints are one of my favorite ways to create art. Whether you use potatoes, linoleum blocks, foam, wood, etc., usually, printmaking is very instant gratification.

I received Lena Corwin's new book Printing By Hand last weekend and it has been a pure joy to read, page after page.

I especially appreciate how in depth, yet easily readable her book is. After reading the intro and a given project, you feel more than equipped to take the next steps to try out a new technique, or an old technique in a new way.

One of my favorite printing books for sure!

New Alphabet Poster Colors

We just got word from San Francisco based artist and designer Lorena Siminovich of Petit Collage, that her beautiful alphabet prints are now available in pink and blue based color schemes.

The posters are $50 unframed and are printed on 100% post-consumer recycled paper (we always love a green spin).

Marney McDiarmid's ceramic pieces are truly original and captivating. With her use of image transfer, embedded textures and text, each piece's voice resonates sweetly and loudly.

Making tea just got more interesting and efficient thanks to industrial designer Joey Roth. Although I have traditionally used my Bodum for both loose leaf tea and coffee, I find the Sorapot striking for 2 main reasons: 1. its design, 2. its functionality. The Sorapot is designed for optimal functionality, allowing loose leaf tea and hot water to be added with ease. The functionality is the main draw, as the central glass chamber lies horizontally while the tea infuses, exposing a greater surface area to the hot water, genius.
